TAM Docents: Docent QUOTE Log

Hello Docents-

To replace the Docent Log, we now have the Docent QUOTE Log. The purpose of which I have posted below and on the top of the sheets which will go in the Docent Log Book. You will only write in it when there is a story to share versus every shift. It still gives a place to share stories without the pressure of having to write something up when there isn’t much to say. I hope this bridges both of those “needs”. Your feedback is, of course, welcome.

Please write down any quotes from our visitors or experiences from a tour that you would like to share that might be of interest to other docents and the Tacoma Art Museum Development Department for use with grants or to share with exhibition funders.

Thank you,

-Jana

<<Kara Bonana.JPG>> Hello Docents-
Sanjeev suggested that I send out the pictures of our new docents so that you might recognize them and introduce yourselves. Those are attached above. Despite Security's misspelling, they are Sarah Berkley and Kara Bonavia.
Thanks for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!

TAM Docents: Welcome new docents!

Hello Docents-

As of today we have officially welcomed 2 new docents to our rank and file: Sarah Berkley and Kara Bonavia. I will be scheduling them for shadow shifts soon so be aware that you may be paired up for some of your shifts as they learn the ropes and learn from you by watching and asking questions. They  have been given the New Docent Checklist as a guideline too. Both have also RSVP’d to the lunch following Nancy Fullerton’s talk on October 28 so please welcome them in person then!

Best regards,

-Jana

TAM Docents: Book Recommendation

Hello Docents-

There is a book at my desk, America’s Medici’s: The Rockefellers and Their Astonishing Cultural Legacy, that has been loaned by Stephanie. If you would like to borrow this book to learn more about the Rockefellers in anticipation of the Mexican folk art exhibition, please feel free to do so. Just let me know you have it and please keep it no longer than 2 weeks so that others may have a chance at it.

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM Docents: Docent Log Book is back...sorta

Hello Docents-

I will have the Docent Log Book back at the Docent Desk today. However, it will no longer contain the log book pages. We have decided to stop that process for now but I have left in the book check-out sheets so that you can sign out any books you take home from the docent shelves (only those on the left bookcase). I also removed the Independent Study Log Sheets because I know that you study the exhibitions and visit other museums without you also having to write about it in a book. I would rather you focused your time on the studying and the touring without having to log it all too. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please let me know.

Thank you,

-Jana

The Saint John's Bible is scheduled to be featured on NBC's Today show during the second hour (8-9 a.m. Central) on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Donald Jackson and Fr. Robert Koopmann, OSB, are scheduled to be guests and to discuss the completion of the project.

The exact time of the segment is not known, and the feature could be postponed due to any breaking news. Archived video of Wednesday's feature will be available on Today's website after the segment. Jackson and The Saint John's Bible were featured on Today at the beginning of the project in 1999.
