TAM CORRECTION: New docent training on Dec. 12

Very sorry but my previous email was completely inaccurate – please disregard it entirely!

The November 15 Telling Stories workshop that was cancelled has been rescheduled for December 6 from 6-8 pm. (nothing has changed about this training)

The November 28 New Docent Training that was cancelled has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 12 from 6-8 pm.

We chose this date to avoid having three docent activities during the week of December 4 the other activities being the Telling Stories workshop (which is optional for new docents) on Dec. 6 and the Docent Holiday Party on Dec. 7. This training will be about how to plan your tours.

Please confirm that you received this email, and indicate to Susan Burnham (sburnham@tacomaartmuseum.org or 272-4258 x3038) whether or not you will attend the Tuesday, December 12 training session.

By the way, a binder for the Telling Stories presentations is now at the Docent Desk/Bookshelf.

If you still have any handouts, please pass them on to me.

Thanks for your time!

TAM: Telling Stories workshop on Dec. 12

The November 15 Telling Stories workshop that was cancelled has been rescheduled for December 12 from 6-8 pm.

We chose this date to avoid having two docent activities during the week of December 4 (the other activity being the Docent Holiday Party on Dec. 7), and although we don’t usually schedule any training in December, we felt that all of you would want to get the Telling Stories information sooner rather than later.

Please confirm that you received this email, and indicate to Susan Burnham (sburnham@tacomaartmuseum.org or 272-4258 x3038) whether or not you will attend the December 12 training session.

TAM: open docent shifts for December

Here is a list of upcoming docent shifts that need an actual docent. You can sign up for an extra shift (it’s that time of year to be extra-good!) or trade a shift. We will obviously be very busy over Christmas – please help by taking on an extra shift if you can.

The most important shifts are in orange!

NOVEMBER:

  • Friday, December 1 from 10-2 or 1-5
  • Saturday, December 2, any shift (tours at 11 am and 1 pm)
  • Thursday, December 7 from 1-5
  • Friday, December 8 from 1-5
  • Wednesday, December 13 from 10-2
  • Thursday, December 14 from 10-2
  • Friday, December 15 from 1-5
  • Saturday, December 16, any shift (tours at 11 am and 1 pm)
  • Sunday, December 17, any shift (tours at 1 pm and 3 pm)
  • Third Thursday, December 21 from 1-5 – could probably use extra docents for all shifts (tours at 11 am, 1 pm and 7 pm)
  • Friday, December 22 from 1-5
  • Wednesday, December 27 from 10-2
  • Thursday, December 28 from 10-2
  • Friday, December 29 from 10-2 or 1-5
  • Saturday, December 30, any shift – Family Day (tours at 11 am and 1 pm)
  • Sunday, December 31, any shift (tours at 1 pm and 3 pm)
  • Thursday, January 4 from 1-5
  • Friday, January 5 from 1-5

Also, the following once-every-two-week docent shifts are currently available if you want to trade:

  • Wednesdays from 10-2 (week B – Dec. 13, etc)
  • Thursdays from 10-2 (2nd and 4th of every month)
  • Thursdays from 1-5 (week A – Dec. 7, etc)
  • Fridays from 1-5 (week A or B)
  • Saturdays from 1-5 (1st and/or 3rd of every month)
  • Sundays from 12-4 (week B – Dec. 3, etc)

We expect weekends and Third Thursdays to be especially busy during Eric Carle, and we might need extra docents on those days if you are available, even once a month.

Also, we have school tours booked twice a day, starting at 10 am and 12 noon, on almost every day during Eric Carle. And self-guided tours are also starting to get busy, so you will be seeing lots of children!

Thanks for your time!

TAM: are you coming to the Docent Holiday Party on Dec. 7 ???

This is a reminder to please RSVP for the Docent Holiday Party if you have not already done so.

I would like to give Sue Stibbe a rough estimate of how many of us she should expect, and also make sure that we don’t end up with 20 desserts and no main dishes.

Thank you!

Subject: TAM: Docent Holiday Party on Dec. 7

One of our excellent docents, Sue Stibbe, has agreed to host our Docent Holiday Party at her house in Lakewood on Thursday, December 7 from 5:00-8:00 pm!

I would also like to mention that Sue was not the only docent who graciously offered to host a get-together at her home. And don’t worry, if you weren’t called upon this time, I have other plans for you in the future…

This will be an informal potluck dinner where we will eat and drink and socialize. And you are welcome to bring a partner or any other special person who you would like to meet your fellow docents and Tacoma Art Museum education staff.

What should you bring?

If your last name begins with:

  • A-H – please bring a side dish
  • I-P – please bring a main dish
  • Q-Z – please bring a dessert

Tacoma Art Museum will provide refreshments.

Please note that all food should be ready to serve and Sue’s kitchen is not large enough to allow for any re-heating or other preparations.

Where does Sue Stibbe live?

Sue lives at 6921 Topaz Dr. SW, Lakewood, WA, 98498.

I will send out more detailed directions closer to the party date.

Please RSVP to me (Heide) if you do plan on coming.
