Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in taking part in the day trip on Saturday, May 6, 2006 to the Western Washington University Outdoor Sculpture Collection in Bellingham and the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner.
If there isn’t enough interest by docents to fill the majority of the bus, then we would like to scale down to a smaller bus. Right now, we have booked a bus that seats 47 passengers. So far, only 10 people have signed up for the trip.
If you are interested in the trip, please let me know by this Friday, April 21 at which point we will be considering whether or not to down-size the bus.
THANK YOU!

Subject: EXCITING NEWS: Docent Field Trip: Saturday, May 6
Exciting News!
I have been busy planning a day trip for all Tacoma Art Museum Docents that will happen on Saturday, May 6, 2006.
The field trip will involve:
- 7:30 am: bus drive to Bellingham
- 10 am: one-hour tour of the Western Washington University Outdoor Sculpture Collection by Sarah Clark-Langager, the curator of the Outdoor Sculpture Collection and director of the Western Gallery at Western Washington University in Bellingham.

http://www.ubcpress.ubc.ca/search/title_book.asp?BookID=3038 - 12 noon: lunch
- 1:30 pm: bus drive to La Conner
- 3:30 pm: one-hour tour at the Museum of Northwest Art by a docent
The exhibition will be “Wordless Stories” and it is a group show with five artists in different media, “ …inviting the viewer to explore their underlying personal narratives.” The artists are Mark Bennion (wall frescos and floor installation), Pat De Caro (oil on glassine), Drake Deknatal (paintings), Randy Hayes (photography and painting – who you should know!) and Catherine Eaton Skinner (paintings and monotypes). The Benaroya Glass Gallery will host Jeff Crandall’s “Poetic Intentions”. And there is also a permanent gallery of Northwest artists.

- 7:30 pm: back at Tacoma Art Museum
Price?
The price for docents is $30 per person.
Can you bring your best friend?
You will be able to invite a spouse or friend on the field trip, but the price for non-docents will be slightly higher (but has not yet been finalized).
Also, this field trip will be offered to other Tacoma Art Museum volunteers in a week or two at the higher price.
Is lunch included?
Unfortunately, no. Lunch can become a real can of worms since everyone likes different foods, price ranges, and quantities. As a result, we have decided that lunch won’t be included in the price. Our plan is to eat as a group at the Western Washington University cafeteria which Carri assures me offers good food at a very reasonable price, in a nice setting. (By the way, Carri is a Western Washington University grad so maybe she will tell us some stories…)
We have scheduled an hour-and-a-half for lunch, but it is likely you will have even more time than that if you do some math with the schedule. So, there might be enough time for you to go elsewhere for lunch in small groups.
What should you wear?
The WWU Outdoor Sculpture Collection is outdoors, and the tour does involve walking. I’m waiting for more details on exactly how far, but wear your walking shoes and be ready for rain if we get so unlucky.
This trip is an opportunity for all of us to get to know each other better, and also see some important Northwest art at locations that you might not usually get to on your own. Please keep that in mind – we don’t mind if you want to bring someone along with you, but we also want everyone to participate in this group trip.
If you have any questions, let me know!
If you definitely want to come on the field trip, let me know!
If you want to bring a friend on the trip, let me know!
If you definitely don’t want to come, let me know!
(and if you are scheduled to docent on May 6 – Barbara Reisman and Debora Kernan – I’m sure we can work something out.)
