Hello Docents-
Attached and copied below is the training schedule for April through July.
Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!
-Jana
Mark your calendars to save the following dates and times.
Please notify Jana (272.4258 x3030 or JWennstrom@TacomaArtMuseum.org) in advance if you are unable to attend a required training.
Required Training | Tuesday, April 6, Time 10:30 am | Tour of Icons exhibition at Washington State Historical Museum. Meet here at Security around 10:15 am if you want to go as a group. Otherwise, we will see you there at 10:30 am. |

Required Training | Saturday, April 17, 2 pm | Chas Bowie will give a public lecture on the history of NW photography. With all of the photography we have here, this will have a long lasting usefulness. |
Required | May – Any time you can arrange | During the month of May, pair up with another docent and do a tour – even if it is just for the other docent (act as you would with a visitor). Assess touring technique for peer evaluation. This is also your chance to let me know what you would like more training opportunities in. |
For Fun! | Sunday, May 16, 2 pm | Come hear author and biologist talk about his time in Uganda with the Gorillas. This is based on his book The Impenetrable Forest. A fun read and his presentation is supposed to be a multi-media good time. |
Highly Recommended | Sunday, June 6, 1 pm | Deborah Butterfield Lecture – Come learn about her long career with horses. |
Required Training | Wednesday, June 9, 10:30 am | Public Program with Rock on the Neddy in the Event Space and gallery. |
For Fun! | Saturday, June 12, 1 pm | Author, Garth Stein, of bestselling novel The Art of Racing in the Rain, will speak about animals in literature. |
For Fun! | Free Third Thursday, June 17, 4:30 pm – 7 pm | We have 2 fun speakers lined up for this evening to talk about their experiences with animals. |
Required Training | Tuesday, June 22, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm | Review evaluation process and results. Review Chihuly Walking Tours. There will be a potluck following for all who wish to stay and socialize before we jump into summer. Please RSVP for the potluck by June 15. |
Required Training | Thursday, July 15, Time 5:30 – 7 pm | Victoria Adams public opening, lecture and gallery walk-through. We will also have the opportunity to do a studio tour with Vicki and I will get you details on that when I have them. |
While we have typically not had summer trainings in the past, there is the need to offer training opportunities for the Victoria Adams exhibition. I realize this may pose a challenge for those of you that have a lot going on during the summer but I hope that you will be able to make arrangements to attend at least the July 15 opening but, if not, be sure to take the time to meet with another docent who was able to attend to get the information you will need as Victoria Adams is a regular in the galleries.
