Hello Docents,
The museum has decided to continue to stay open until 5 pm to 8 pm every Thursday! On these nights there will often be exciting programming related to our current exhibitions.
This also means that we are looking for docents that would be interested in covering these late night shifts, from 5 pm to 8pm.
For this month we have the following shifts available:
Late Night Thursday, June 14th, 5 pm to 8 pm
Late Night Thursday, June 21st, 5 pm to 8 pm
Late Night Thursday, June 28th 5 pm to 8 pm
Please let me know if you are interested in taking on one of these shifts.
I also want to remind about the upcoming programs and docent trainings:

Lecture: Innovation and Collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum
Late Thursday, June 28, 6 pm
Join Jennifer McTague, Project Technician for The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, PA, to learn more about how FWM collaborates with contemporary artists to create new work in new materials. McTague will discuss how the studio works with artists, from an initial idea all the way through to the final work of art, and will provide a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse of the installation in progress of Marie Watt: Lodge (on view June 30–October 7). Cost: $15 ($10 for members, $5 for students). Includes museum admission.
Lecture: Blankets, Stories, and Communities in the Work of Marie Watt
Saturday, July 21, 1 pm
Join us as nationally recognized mixed media artist Marie Watt shares the inspiration and techniques behind her work in the exhibition Marie Watt: Lodge (on view June 30–October 7). An artist whose work explores human stories and the rituals implicit in everyday objects, Watt’s art includes portrait blankets of Jim Thorpe, Ira Hays, Susan B. Anthony, and Joseph Beuys; stacked blanket sculptures; and the interactive “Engine,” a cave-like structure that honors the act of storytelling and the storytellers in the artist's life. After the lecture, stay on for a studio workshop with the artist; receive a $5 discount for participation in both programs. Cost: $15 ($10 for members, $5 for students).
Family Workshop: Wave Your Personal Flag
Saturday, July 21, 2:30-5 pm
Following her 1 pm lecture, join featured artist Marie Watt to learn how to make art inspired by your own stories and community. Using mixed media materials similar to those Watt uses in her work such as blankets and fabric scraps, create a personal flag that showcases your identity, family, heritage, or otherwise tells the story of your life. Materials will be available for this workshop, but participants are encouraged to bring personally resonant textiles or other items to incorporate into their flags. Clock hours are available for educators who attend both the lecture and the workshop; all attendees receive a $5 discount for participation in both programs. Cost: $35 ($25 for members) covers one adult and up to one child; additional children $10 each. Advance registration is strongly recommended as space is limited.
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Regards,
Megan
