Hello Docents-
First, I need to remind you all that TOUCHING HARMS THE ART. I have been informed that some touching of artwork has been observed of one of our docents and, even worse, that the person in question was encouraging visitors to touch as well. Please don’t!
Next, attached you will find a copy of the 2011 Docent Evaluation Forms. These were modified after last year to reflect your observations and requests for this process. It is meant to be a learning experience and I hope it will be at least educational, if not pleasant. I know some of you actually enjoyed it and I hope more of you do this year, having been through it once already. For those of you that are new, or just need a reminder, you are responsible for doing a peer evaluation (and having one done of you), as well as, a self-evaluation. This is your chance to discover what you might do differently moving forward, what you do well, and what you might want more training on. You have the entire month of April to do this as there are no trainings scheduled to accommodate this process. If you need help pairing up, please let me know, otherwise I will assume you have all managed to partner on your own.
During our meeting today, we talked a bit about what is coming down the pike in terms of exhibitions and trainings. As this goes directly to the blog and I have draft info only, I am not at liberty to share via email and, besides, very little is concrete right now anyway, so I will not go over that info just now. Do know that I will get exhibition and training info to you as soon as I am able and, for the time being, we do not have exhibition dates that are fully set for the fall/winter. Our website has the most up-to-date public info available at http://www.tacomaartmuseum.org/Page.aspx?nid=116. Feel free to drop by my desk to get a look at the draft preview. I hope to get a training calendar to you in April for the May – July timeframe.
Sorry to go on…please remember to share the galleries graciously. We have group tours and school tours happening simultaneously which makes for close quarters and noise in the galleries. As much as possible, try to pick different areas to tour for extra space and less noise when you lead tours where multiple groups are present.
Finally, if you didn’t get to state your piece today in regards to trainings you would like to see planned, don’t hold back. I truly enjoy getting your emails and value your opinions.
Thank you,
-Jana
