Education Staff Updates

Dear Docents,

On the eve of our annual volunteer appreciation dinner, my heart is full. Again, I want to extend my warm and heartfelt thanks for all that you do. We are a stronger and better museum because of your time, talents, and creative energy. This year 198 of you volunteered 9,674 hours, which is the equivalent of 4.7 fulltime staff members – a phenomenal contribution valued at $233,167! It is a pleasure to celebrate your accomplishments, and we missed those of you who were unable to join us.

I also wanted to share some updates on our education department staffing. I am thrilled to announce that Asia Tail will continue her tenure at TAM as the new Education Assistant. Asia proved her strong work ethic during her tenure as Haub Fellow, when she produced labels for the Haub Family Galleries, conceived and created the Contemporary Native Voices project http://www.tacomaartmuseum.org/voices/, and developed teacher resources and tour materials related to the collection. During staffing transitions in the Education Department, she has been assisting with program implementation, conducting tours, and teaching our afterschool art program.

As Education Assistant, Asia will handle all aspects related to scheduling tours, maintaining volunteer records and scheduling volunteers, communications from the museum, assisting with program logistics, maintaining education spaces (ie: Gates Library, TAM Studio, interactive stations in the galleries), and generally ensuring that the education department continues running smoothly. For volunteers, she will be your primary point of contact with the museum, so expect to hear from her soon. You can reach her directly at ATail@TacomaArtMuseum.org, and she will have Kara’s phone extension 253-272-4258 ext. 3030 to help the transition be as smooth as possible.

We have just posted a new position of Educator for Adult Learning, and we hired a new Educator for Youth Learning who will start later this summer. More details on both to follow. Once we hire this last vacant position we will finally be fully staffed and better able to serve you and help you continue the great work you do.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns during our ongoing transitions. As always, we are here for you!

With deepest appreciation,

Samantha
