TAM Docent Calendar & Trainings

Hello, faithful docents:

Nice to see several of you this weekend for the very interesting public sculpture symposium, and many of you yesterday for Brian Lang’s presentation on the BNY Mellon exhibition! He is a treasure trove of information about each of the works, and several of you commented that hearing from him was extremely helpful in terms of wrapping your heads around the exhibition. For those that missed, unfortunately we did not record this one, but today Brian sat down to help record an audio guide, so you’ll be able to hear from him personally soon. In the meanwhile, if anyone who attended would be kind enough to share their notes, please let me know and I can send those out to the group.

It was also pointed out that while my last email to you included the main panel label copy and a number of other documents, it did not include the individual object label text, and in the case of this exhibition those are quite detailed. So that document is attached here, but be forewarned it is over 70 pages long! Perhaps best to read on your computer rather than printing out; and I will also make sure a copy makes its way to the current exhibition info binder at the docent desk by early next week (I’m sorry I did not have a chance to update it for this exhibition yet). The exhibition catalogue is also really helpful, and you can find copies of that in the exhibition, in the ARC general collection (it’s living on the center table right now), and at the docent desk in the ARC. (If you could, please refrain from borrowing it from the docent desk right now, or return it quickly, so that everyone gets a chance to look at it in these first couple weeks of the exhibition.)

Below are two different calendars: first, upcoming trainings through the end of April, and second, the shift calendar through the end of March. In regards to the former, note that March is kind of downtime for us training-wise—we have two exhibitions closing (Michael Kenna and Best of the NW), and then the hubbub of Eric Carle doesn’t start till the beginning of April (and note that in April we start with a weird training time—a Friday afternoon—due to the presenter’s schedule). So enjoy your free time while you’ve got it this month. J I am working on arranging a field trip for us, and will have more info for you as soon as possible. In regards to the shift calendar, it looks like we are very well covered for March, except for the very last week. Since it’s the fifth week of the month, those days are not regularly covered by anyone, so please let me know if you are available.

For Fun!
