TAM Docents: Discount lecture offer

Hello Docents-

I would like to offer you all the student rate for the August 16 lectures:

Native American Resurgence in the 1970s
Saturday, August 13, 1 pm
During the 1970s, when Dale Chihuly began collecting American Indian artifacts and creating artwork influenced by those collections, Native Americans in Washington and across the nation were making news with a variety of provocative actions. They sought acknowledgment and redress of injustices they had suffered, respect for promises made in nineteenth-century treaties, and greater power to govern their reservation communities. Sasha Harmon, University of Washington professor of American Indian Studies, tells the story of that dramatic resurgence and its relationship to public images of American Indians. Cost: $15, $10 for members, $5 for students, includes museum admission.

The Native Baskets that Inspired Chihuly
Saturday, August 13, 3 pm

Join Washington State Research Center’s Head of Collections, Lynette Miller, to learn about Native American baskets. Miller’s focus will be the baskets on view in the exhibition Dale Chihuly’s Northwest. In this exhibition, for the first time, thanks to a generous loan of Native American baskets from the Washington State History Museum, pieces from Chihuly’s glass Basket Series may be seen alongside the original baskets that inspired them. Cost: $15, $10 for members, $5 for students, includes museum admission.

I hope to see you there!
