TAM: Susan Burnham

Some of you may be receiving this twice – I apologize for that. Heide.

Hello –

I want to let everyone know before the holidays, that Susan Burnham will be leaving the museum at the end of January to pursue professional goals in art education that will allow her to spend more time in the classroom with students and to more actively support teacher professional development in the arts.

Susan’s contributions to the museum in her time here have been significant.  She began as the Manager of School, Teacher, and Docent Programs in the fall of 2006 when the Eric Carle exhibition opened, and lead the education department in serving a record number of school children in the last fiscal year while ushering in the new class of docents attending the art history series and ongoing training.

She leaves for a well deserved vacation to Belize tomorrow and will return in early January to complete this year’s Youth Connect program.  Her last day will be January 25th and has agreed to come back in late February to teach a teacher professional development workshop which was previously scheduled. We wish her all the best in the next chapter in her career.  Heide and will be communicating with you on an ongoing basis about upcoming trainings and scheduling. We will also keep you informed about Susan’s replacement.

The next training will be with Margaret Bullock in preparation for Renoir as Printmaker on Wednesday, January 23rd at 5:30pm and on Monday, Janauary 29th at 10:30am.  This will include an overview of the exhibition in the event space followed by a walk through with Margaret in the gallery.  She will also be doing a public lecture on the Renoir exhibition on Free Third Thursday, January 17th which you may attend in lieu of either of the docent trainings if it is better for your schedule.   We also hope that you know about the five part lecture series that begins on February 12th and will bridge concepts in the Renoir and Chuck Close exhibitions. There is a charge for this series, but as docents your admission will be complimentary. We will mail lecture series brochures to your home with articles to prepare you for the Chuck Close exhibition.

Thank you again for all you do for Tacoma Art Museum and enjoy the holidays.
