Docent Shift Available: Saturdays

Starting in July, one of the every-second-Saturday, 10-2 docent shifts will be available.

This shift does include tours at 11 am and 1 pm, as advertised.

If you are interested in taking on or switching to this shift, please let me know!

The summer exhibitions – Essence of Line: French Drawings from Ingres to Degas, Between Clouds of Memory: The Ceramic Art of Akio Takamori, and Roy Lichtenstein: American Indian Encounters – should be popular and busy, so it is important that docents are available for all shifts.

We don’t expect you to be in the galleries, on your feet, for the entire four hours! Please feel free to take a break whenever and wherever you need it – in the ARC, the Untitled Café, the Museum Store, or outside the museum. Just let Visitor Services know where you are, and they will find you if someone requests a docent.

And I will always contact you if there is a tour or other event for which you are needed at a specific time. Otherwise, it is completely up to you to decide when you are most needed and how long you can manage in the galleries.

Thanks for your time!

Docent Needed for Tour: Friday, May 19 at 10:45 am

Can anyone do a Great American Thing tour on Friday, May 19 at 10:45 am?

The tour is for a group of 38 college students from UW Tacoma, and they are an art history class. They would like a formal tour of The Great American Thing, with a question and answer period, plus time to roam around on their own. They are scheduled to be at Tacoma Art Museum for an hour and a half.

Sue Stibbe is scheduled to docent on that day, but I would like to find a second docent for the tour so that it can be split into two smaller groups.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!

'Dora Maar,' depicting artist's mistress, is 2nd-highest sale of his work

NEW YORK - A portrait by Pablo Picasso of the woman who influenced him
in the late 1930s and early 1940s sold for $95.2 million, the
second-highest amount ever paid for a painting at auction, the auction
house Sotheby's said.

"Dora Maar au chat," which depicts Picasso's mistress, went to an
anonymous buyer in the room who was competing with telephone bidders
during Wednesday's auction.

FYI: Akio Takamori video

There are apparently no videos about Akio Takamori, so we will not be able to watch one for training purposes, and there also won’t be any showing in the Event Space during the exhibition.
