plastic bags for OAS

The Open Art Studio can always use your used, clean plastic bags.

We try to keep a supply of them for visitors to use to take home their Open Art Studio artworks.

If you have extra plastic bags at home, you can drop them off near my desk on the Admin Level or take them up to the OAS and leave them in the cabinets under the sink.

Thank You!

Metro Coffee - art by Shannon Eakins

Shannon Eakins – TAM art instructor (officially “museum educator”), former docent coordinator and local artist, I think you know her – currently has a small show of her artwork at Metro Coffee in downtown Tacoma! I’m not sure how long it will be there – only until mid-February I think so hurry over there.

If you are interested in seeing Shannon’s art work, Metro Coffee is on the UW Tacoma campus:

®    From Pacific Avenue, go up the stairs by the UW bookstore (across from Union Station) and Metro Coffee is on the left, a little more than halfway up.

®    From The Swiss Pub on Jefferson Avenue, go down the stairs and to the right.

Docent Needed: Saturday, February 18 from 10-2

Can anyone do a docent shift (or trade a shift) on Saturday, February 18 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm? (or later in the day) There is no other docent scheduled on this day, and this shift does include tours at 11 am and 1 pm, as advertised.

Due to the expected popularity of Great American Thing, it is important that we try to have docents available for all shifts.

We don’t expect you to be in the galleries, on your feet, for the entire four hours! Please feel free to take a break whenever and wherever you need it – in the ARC, the Untitled Café, the Museum Store, or outside the museum. Just let Visitor Services know where you are, and they will find you if someone requests a docent.

And I will always contact you if there is a tour or other event for which you are needed at a specific time. Otherwise, it is completely up to you to decide when you are most needed and how long you can manage in the galleries.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!

URGENT: 2 Docents Needed: Thursday, February 9 from 6-8 pm

Can anyone do a mini-docent shift on Thursday, February 9 from 6-8 pm?

A group of 250 people from Cascade Regional Blood Supply will be at TAM for a donor appreciation reception from 6-9 pm. Having 2 docents would be ideal – so far only Bev Bright has volunteered.

Thanks also to Sanjeev, Cheryl and Ellen who will be here on Feb. 8 for the Educator Evening.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!

Marguerite Zorach painting

In case you haven’t noticed, there is a painting by Marguerite Zorach (who is also in The Great American Thing) on the Admin Level in TAM, right by the elevator.

And, to answer a question from today’s training, Marguerite Zorach and William Zorach (both in GAT) were married.

GAT research in ARC

For your Great American Thing research on specific artists, please remember that you can use our wonderful Art Resource Center!! The ARC volunteers would love to see you in there doing some research.

Also, a web resource that I like to use is LookSmart, which allows you to search magazine articles:

www.findarticles.com

If you go to the “Advanced Search” you can even specify to search only a specific publication, such as The New Yorker, one of my personal favorites!

Have fun!
