Gehry to Design Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — The Guggenheim Foundation announced
Saturday it had commissioned American architect Frank Gehry to build a
new branch of the Guggenheim modern and contemporary art museum in
this Gulf Emirate.

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is planned at 323,000 square feet, larger
than any of the existing Guggenheim museums.

Construction was expected to begin shortly on Saadiyat Island, which
is being developed as the cultural district of the Emirates' capital
city, officials here said.

The museum is expected to be finished in five years.

It will display its own major collection of contemporary art and
exhibit works from the Guggenheim Foundation's global collections,
according to a government statement.

Docent Needed: Saturday, July 15

Can anyone do a docent shift (or trade a shift) on Saturday, July 15? It could be 10-2, or 1-5, or another time slot.

The SiteWorks Dance Festival (www.barefootcallous.org/PagesBarefoot/Performances/SiteWorks/SiteWorksAbout.html) will be taking place around the Museum of Glass, and it is important that we try to have docents available for all shifts.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!

Docent Needed: Tuesday, August 1 from 1-5

Can anyone do a docent shift (or trade a shift) on Tuesday, August 1 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm?

It is important that we try to have docents available for all shifts.

We don’t expect you to be in the galleries, on your feet, for the entire four hours! Please feel free to take a break whenever and wherever you need it – in the ARC, the Untitled Café, the Museum Store, or outside the museum. Just let Visitor Services know where you are, and they will find you if someone requests a docent.

And I will always contact you if there is a tour or other event for which you are needed at a specific time. Otherwise, it is completely up to you to decide when you are most needed and how long you can manage in the galleries.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!
