Docent Calendar Calendar

Hello Docents!
Here is your calendar for May 1st – 18th. Please let me know if you can fill any of the open shifts. Most particularly, May 1st really needs someone who is available to give a docent tour from 4P – 5P. Thank you so much!

April 24th training!!!

Hello Docents!

I am so sorry for the late email. It was brought to my attention last night that I had yet to send out an email regarding the month of May and then I remember there is an upcoming training on April 24th. I promise I am normally not this forgetful, but with the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on April 23rd a few things have gotten away from me!

On Tuesday Laura Fry will be speaking to us about the Haub collection at 10AM. I’m sure Courtney has mentioned it before, but in case she hadn’t or you missed it, I wanted to remind you of this event! While I will not be in attendance, Josh is going to make sure he’s there and I’ll pop my head in [I’m working VS on Wednesday]. This training is highly recommended. If you cannot make this training, Laura will be giving another one tomorrow, April 20th from 1P – 3:30PM.

There is also a tour coming through on May 11th. Gaard Logan will be leading half of this tour, but the group is rather large at 50 attendees, so we are looking for a second docent. If you would be able to help with this tour, please let me know as soon as possible! The information is available for you below.

At the moment, we do not have anything planned for the month of May! With Courtney leaving and the excitement over Eric Carle, we’ve decided to give you the month off. We were thinking that it would be fun if we could host a potluck, if that is something that interests you! Let me know if you would want to get together and what date(s) work best and we’ll go from there! If you have any questions regarding your regularly scheduled shift, please feel free to email or call me. I would be more than happy to help out in any way possible.

A follow-up email with the schedule for the month of May will be sent out shortly.

URGENT! The tour has grown!

Hello Docents!

I thought I would send out one last ditch effort for a docent tomorrow! We have a group of 30 coming in tomorrow from 10A – 11A requesting a private tour with a focus on the Eric Carle exhibition. While we have a docent who has agreed to do the tour, we’re looking for a second due to the size of the group. Here is a bit more information:

Introduction

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, located in a beautiful residential area on the east side of Wausau, Wisconsin, offers artworks from every corner of the world to north central Wisconsin residents and visitors through diverse changing exhibitions. Best known is the internationally acclaimed Birds in Art, an annual juried exhibition that showcases a variety of artistic styles – from impressionism to satirical caricature – created by artists the world over and documented in a full-color catalogue.

The Museum is housed in an updated 1931 English Tudor period Cotswold-style residence to which a new main entrance and expansive two-story gallery spaces have been added. The grounds cover four acres highlighted by the Margaret Woodson Fisher Sculpture Garden, a formal English garden, attractive brick walkways, a shaded arbor and seating area, and on-site parking. All public spaces are accessible to visitors with disabilities.

An active program of eight to ten changing exhibitions each year encourages frequent visits as does an array of programs for children and adults scheduled to complement each exhibition. Regular programs such as Toddler Tuesday, Art Time for Tots, Art Buddies, Art Explorers, Foundations, and Activity Guides are supplemented with storytelling, lectures, videos, demonstrations, and bus trips. Not to be missed is OctoBIRDfest, the Museum’s biggest and birdiest family festival of the year.

Birds in Art opens to the public on the first Saturday following Labor Day every year and is on view for nine weeks. Specific Birds in Art education programs and special events will be available online by August 15 each year.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping with the tour. My email is sent to my phone, so if you get this later in the day, don’t be afraid to reply! Thank you so so much!
