TAM Docents: We need YOU on October 11

Hello Docents-

I still have need for a docent to fulfill the talk presented below. This would also be a great opportunity for one of the new docents to get their feet wet. Please let me know if you can help out with this presentation.

We have an exciting opportunity for a docent to go into the community and teach about Tacoma Art Museum and the artwork inside it. Senior University at the Franke Tobey Jones Retirement Estates has requested a docent to give a preview of Edo to Tacoma: Japanese Woodblock Prints from the Collection on Monday, October 11 at 3 pm. It is in preparation for bringing a group of seniors to the museum later on in the month. We will provide you a PowerPoint presentation along with any other support or information you may need. (Senior University will provide all the technical equipment, you will just need to take the thumb-drive with the PowerPoint file on it) The location of the university is 5340 N Bristol. Feel free to contact Lisa McKeown with any questions (253.272.4258 x3047, LMcKeown@TacomaArtMuseum.org).

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM Docents: Chihuly Materials #1

Hello Docents & VS Specialists-

Attached you will find some Chihuly materials for the “new” exhibition in the Bill and Bobby Street Gallery. I will be forwarding on a couple of other useful sheets and making copies to put up in the ARC that you are welcome to give to visitors and tour participants.

New Docents -

There is a Chihuly Walking tour handbook, however, I have all of the component parts at my desk but haven’t had any time to finish putting them together. If you are eager to get started learning more about Dale Chihuly and his work, feel free to offer some of your time to coming in and helping me finish those handbooks. When they are ready to go, I will let you know so that you can come and pick up your copy.

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM Docents: Some great press & Introductions

Hello Docents-

Below is a link to a TNT article about the Edo to Tacoma Exhibition. I thought it would make a great follow-up to yesterday’s training and, for those not in attendance, highlight some of what you have to look forward to.

I also wanted to take a moment to “introduce” some new docents to the program. We will have some new folks joining in the fun and I hope that you will help get them oriented. I will be pairing them up with current docents to shadow starting as soon as I get their availability. I plan to rotate them through several docents so that they will have the opportunity to see different styles and learn different approaches to touring.

The new docents:

Liliana Franz

Cathy Wiggins

Laura Delgadillo

Randy Hyde

Rose Oliveira

Like all of you, this batch is a winner! I feel so lucky to have such an interesting group of docents and I am sure you will enjoy each others’ company on the shared shifts. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns as we go through this process of introducing new docents into the pool. This will be a different format than we’ve had in the past so I am learning too.

Thank you,

-Jana
