TAM Docent Trainings and Calendar
Hello, fabulous docents:
And Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are all eating chocolates as you read this. I wanted to remind you/let you know about two upcoming training opportunities, one of which I’ve just confirmed. In addition to the BNY Mellon symposium, which is not required but is highly recommended, we also have a special opportunity to learn directly from the curator of BNY Mellon’s corporate collection, Brian Lang, at our regular Wednesday training time at the end of this month:
Highly Recommended | Saturday, February 23, 1 pm | Symposium: Crafting Public Spaces for Art Join us on the opening day of Drawing Line into Form: Works on Paper by Sculptors from the Collection of BNY Mellon (on view through May 26) to hear a variety of local experts discuss the philosophy and planning that go into creating a public art and sculpture collection. Hear from Brian Lang, Curator of the BNY Mellon Collection; Amy McBride, Arts Administrator for the City of Tacoma; Mark Anderson, Managing Director of the Walla Walla Foundry; and Peggy Kendellen, Public Art Manager for the Regional Arts and Culture Council in Portland; with an introduction by Rock Hushka, Curator of Contemporary and Northwest Art at Tacoma Art Museum. Docents receive student rate of $10. |
Required Training | Wednesday, February 27, 10:30 am | Curator Lecture: Drawing Line into Form The Corporate Art Collection of BNY Mellon features internationally celebrated modernist and contemporary artists, including 50 works on paper by sculptors that are on view at Tacoma Art Museum through May 26. Come learn more about BNY Mellon’s collection from Pittsburgh-based curator Brian Lang. Free for docents. (This is also a public program.) |
I hope to see you at one or both of these programs! To whet your appetite for the upcoming BNY Mellon exhibition, I’ve also attached a copy of the illustrated checklist.
Finally, I am sending along an updated calendar for the next month. There are only 2 needed time slots right now, so please let me know if you can fill either of them. In particular, I am still looking for someone who might be available next Monday the 18th, Presidents’ Day, when we will be open especially for military families, who receive free admission.
