Hello Docents-

Below is the order for your Speaking Parts presentations. I have attached the list in case you have forgotten who you signed up for or in case you need to sign up for someone and have not. If you see your name on the list below and you know you will not be at the training on November 17 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, please submit your presentation to me and I will present it to the group for you. All presentations should be no more than 5 minutes long (I will be timing to make sure that we can all get through everyone on time. Please practice and time yourselves out of consideration for your fellow docents. The same holds true for those of you emailing me your presentations.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am really looking forward to your presentations!

Please join Tacoma Art Museum staff and other volunteers for a potluck lunch on Tuesday, November 11 at noon in the classroom following the Second Tuesday lecture:

Through Others’ Eyes: Ottomans and the West Seeing Each Other

Tuesday, November 11, 10:30 am

There is a long history of European writers and artists describing and portraying the vast multiethnic Ottoman Empire that dominated the Near East and North Africa. What is less well known is that there was a similar tradition of Ottoman writers and painters representing the West. Ottomanist scholars Selim Kuru and Walter G. Andrews, from the department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization at the UW, discuss these representations and the realities behind them.

We will enjoy casual dining in the classroom while getting to know each other a bit better. Bring a favorite dish to share.

Not sure what to bring? Here’s a suggestion:

If your last name starts with         A - F, bring dessert (notice that I started with dessert!)

                                                G - L, bring side dishes

                                                M - R, bring salad

                                                S - Z, bring entrees

Tacoma Art Museum will provide the venue, beverages, plates, napkins, cups, and silverware. Please RSVP to Jana (253.272.4258 x3030 or Jwennstrom@TacomaArtMuseum.org ) if you plan to attend.

Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!!
