Greetings and Updates from Samantha

Hello Docents,

I’ve enjoyed seeing you in the Museum and meeting you and connecting over the last few weeks. And I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Please let me know when you are in the building, come say hello, and I’ll do the same.

There are many exciting things on the horizon for the Tacoma Art Museum, and as docents, you will be on the front lines. We are grateful for your continued commitment to helping us connect people through art! And there are so many connections to be made. We are working for you and with you to make sure you are in the know and feeling confident and ready to tour. I want to know your thoughts and opinions and welcome your feedback on the docent program and the experiences we are providing our visitors. My door is always open, and I hope you consider me a partner in your educational endeavors with TAM.

I also wanted to share with you a teaching resource I mentioned at the training on Wednesday. Rika Burnham and Elliott Kai-Kee are leading the conversation about gallery teaching with their book Teaching in the Art Museum: Interpretation as Experience. And, if you are interested and available, you can hear Elliott at a public lecture at the Seattle Art Museum next Thursday evening. He is amazing! Here’s the information:
