TAM: Docent Needed: Wednesday, November 22 from 1-5

Can anyone do a docent shift (or trade a shift) on Wednesday, November 22 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm? Stephanie Strampe had to cancel on this date.

It is important that we try to have docents available for all shifts.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!

Tacoma Art Museum Contemporary Northwest Art Collection on View at

Whatcom Museum of History and Art

(Tacoma, WA) – Select pieces from Tacoma Art Museum’s permanent collection of Northwest art are traveling to Whatcom Museum of History and Art in Bellingham, Wash. Building Tradition: Contemporary Northwest Art from Tacoma Art Museum is based on one of Tacoma Art Museum’s inaugural exhibitions, Building Tradition: Gifts in Honor of the Northwest Art Collection. It opens at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art November 19, 2006 and will be on view through April 29, 2007.

Building Traditions: Gifts in Honor of the Northwest Art Collection was a four-part exhibition on view from May 2003 to September 2005 at Tacoma Art Museum. It featured more than 200 pieces of Northwest art gifted to the museum’s permanent collection in honor of Tacoma Art Museum’s new building, which opened in May 2003. Building Tradition: Contemporary Northwest Art from Tacoma Art Museum features forty pieces from the original exhibition that highlight the wealth and diversity of the region’s creative talent. Some of the major contemporary Northwest artists represented are Fay Jones, Paul Berger, Jaq Chartier, Yuki Nakamura, Mark Takamichi Miller, Victoria Adams, Robert Yoder, Michael Schultheis, and Jack Dawes.

“Tacoma Art Museum shares a focus on Northwest Art with the Whatcom Museum, said Stephanie Stebich, director of Tacoma Art Museum. “We are delighted to partner with them on this exhibition. Sending parts of our collection to Whatcom is an opportunity to display these works to an audience that might not regularly travel to Tacoma.”

The Whatcom Museum of History and Art is located at 121 Prospect Street in downtown Bellingham. Regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 5 pm. Admission is free. For more information call 360.676.6981 or visit www.whatcommuseum.org

Tacoma Art Museum connects people and builds community through art. The museum serves the diverse communities of the region through its collection, exhibitions, and learning programs, emphasizing art and artists from the Northwest. The museum’s five galleries display an array of top national shows, the best of Northwest art, creatively themed exhibitions, and historical retrospectives. In addition, there is an Education Wing for children, adults, and seniors with an art resource center, classroom, and studio for art making. Tacoma Art Museum is located in Tacoma’s Museum District, near the Museum of Glass, the Washington State History Museum, and historic Union Station.

TAM: weekly docent schedules

I am extremely busy with the crazy Eric Carle school tour schedule, and as a result I have not been sending you the weekly reminders of your shifts and tours.

Please let me know if you DO want to continue receiving the reminders.

Instead, I will probably just send out a monthly reminder to all of upcoming trainings, lectures, exhibitions, etc.

Thanks for your time!
