Hello Docents-
That sure was a fun tour at the History Museum today. Thanks to all of you that participated. One of our tour guides, Gwen, was so kind as to forward on some images of the baskets in the collection that have been attributed to inspiring Chihuly’s glass basket series. Those are attached above. I left Gwen’s email intact as I thought you might enjoy knowing that the History Museum volunteers have been talking up our Concise History exhibition since they came here for a tour last fall. Good job!
Enjoy,
-Jana

Hi, Jana,
Thanks for reminding me! I’m sending a couple along now. I may have more but I’ll need to look in our files to see. I think I actually still have some educational materials from that show—would you like a copy of those, if I do?
The one image of the baskets all piled up that I’m sending may not be the exact room that Chihuly saw and I’m sure it was taken much earlier. But it does give a sense of how early museum curators didn’t have the same sense of how to preserve objects that we do today. (The basket room is FAR different now.)
Again, thanks for bringing your docents over for a visit. It’s really wonderful to have that opportunity to show others our facility and exhibits. (I know, since ours visited TAM on their tour, they’ve really been talking up the NW Art show at the Info Desk.)

Hello Gwen-
Thanks to you and Stephanie again for such a fun tour!
I wanted to take you up on your offer of sending some of the images of the original baskets that Chihuly used for inspiration in his basket series. I know that our docents would really appreciate that as a resource, as would I.
Best regards,
-Jana
