TAM Docents: April shifts and needs

Hello Docents-

Welcome to the first day of spring!

Starting in April, I will need a docent on Third Thursdays from 5 – 8 pm. This is an important shift to fill because, not only is it busy on Third Thursday evenings during this time, but we also advertise the fact that we offer guided tours at 6:30 pm on Third Thursdays. If you are willing to take on this busy shift, please let me know.

Other shifts that are in need of being filled in April:

Friday, April 24              11 am – 3 pm

Wednesday, April 29       11 am – 3 pm

Thursday, April 30          11 am – 3 pm

Please let me know if you can take any of those shifts on.

Finally, a couple of reminders, in case you would like to join us:

UWT Art Tour – walking tour on Friday, April 3 at 10:30 am. Discover the public art available right in our neighborhood. Want to have lunch at a local restaurant afterwards? Please RSVP by March 31 and I will make arrangements (please include any restaurant choices you want considered, including any you don’t). Contact Jana Wennstrom at 253.722.2457 or Jwennstrom@TacomaArtMuseum.org.

Wednesday, April 15 at 10 am - Take a tour at MOG to learn more about the process of creating glass art. Please RSVP by April 5. Contact Jana Wennstrom at 253.722.2457 or Jwennstrom@TacomaArtMuseum.org.

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM Docents: Training on Monday, March 23

Hello Docents-

I am looking to Monday’s final round of presentations:

Linda Flatley                  Zhi Lin and Victor Maldonado

Bev Bright                      Eric Elliot and Denzil Hurley

Elizabeth Walsh              Scott Trimble and Eric Elliot

Terry Dew                     Doug Keyes and Susan Seubert

Debora Kernan               Tannaz Farsi and Sarah Hood

Attached is some information on touring techniques. For the second half of our training, I would like to spend some time discussing how tours are going for the Biennial and, time permitting, Speaking Parts. Think about the approaches that work well and some things that haven’t been as effective so that insights can be shared. This will be more of an open discussion. I found the article attached useful in describing the 2 basic tour styles that we tend to offer and to offer up some good approaches and I wanted to include them in with our discussion.

Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!

-Jana
