TAM Docents: Open Storage Jewelery Cases added to Speaking Parts

There has been a recent addition to Speaking Parts which includes some “open storage” jewelry cases. Attached are the labels and text associated with that. Sorry for the delay – I just learned about them myself. I will have copies of these attachments available at the docent desk by tomorrow.

NORTHWEST COMMUNITY CELEBRATION

FREE Admission for Opening Weekend of Preston Singletary Exhibition

Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009

In celebration of our new exhibition, Preston Singletary: Echoes, Fire, and Shadows , MOG is offering FREE admission Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009.

"Preston Singletary's work combines two of the region's most significant cultural influences— Northwest Native American art and Studio glass," states director Timothy Close. "We want all members of the community to be able to celebrate the opening of this landmark exhibition."

A member of the Tlingit tribe, Preston Singletary is recognized internationally for his work which transforms the symbols, patterns and legends of his Tlingit heritage into glass, creating a distinctive and powerful body of work. Learn more »

OPENING WEEKEND ACTITIVITES

 

Family Day
1 – 4 pm Saturday
Tlingit artist and storyteller Miranda Belarde-Lewis will read selections from her book, Meet Lydia: A Native Girl from Southeast Alaska, and lead visitors in creating their own family crest regalia.

Performance by Swil Kanim, Native American Violinist, Storyteller and Poet
1 pm Saturday
Original musical composition intertwined with storytelling, poetry and audience interaction.

Performance by Northern Star Dancers
3 pm Saturday
The Northern Star Dancers perform in regalia made of traditional materials and trade items common to the Northwest Coast with family crests incorporated. Tribes represented include Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, Cowichan and Inupiat.

Conversation with the Artist
2 pm Sunday
Lecture and slide presentation with Preston Singletary

Book Signing with Preston Singletary
3:15 pm Sunday
Exhibition catalogs are available for purchase in the Museum Store
