Hello Docents-
I just had a few housekeeping items that are outlined in this email.
1) April 6th is a required training: Tour of Icons exhibition at Washington State Historical Museum. Meet here at Security around 10:15 am if you want to go as a group. Otherwise, we will see you there at 10:30 am.
2) April 17th is also a required training:
Gloomy Skies Make Great Softboxes: NW Photography Now
Saturday, April 17, 2 pm
The Northwest has a rich history of photography, as reflected in the exhibition A Concise History of Northwest Art. Chas Bowie, accomplished photographer and art critic for The Oregonian, will discuss and illustrate the history of Northwest Photography in this one-hour lecture. Cost: $15; $5 for members. Pre-registration is recommended. Contact Education@TacomaArtMuseum.org or call 253.722.2455.
As this is required, we will give free admission to docents. You can pick up your ticket at the front desk or from Megan Ristine, Education Assistant. If you haven’t met her yet, this is a great excuse – you won’t be sorry as she is a delight.
3) During the month of May, your required training consists of doing peer and self-reviews. I have attached a copy of the review form. I will need each of you to pair up with another docent and give a tour. This can be a previously scheduled group tour, a tour offered during a shift, or a mock tour given to the peer docent in the fashion of a visitor tour. Any of those will be acceptable. You will also review yourself during this process. For easier scheduling, I have included May’s filled shifts, along with the scheduled docent below. Please let me know who you are pairing up with and the date proposed. You can work together for this process or use me as a conduit (just email me your preferred pairing and I will email that person to set that up). Ideally, each docent will give and observe a tour. This will require that you fill out 2 different review forms – a peer review for the docent you observe and a self-review for the tour you give. Please let me know when you will be pairing up for your review and with whom.
