TAM: Gig Harbor salmon art sculptures

One of our docents, Nancy Harris, has designed a salmon for the Salmonchanted Harbor in Gig Harbor. There are 15 unique salmon art sculptures in the downtown Gig Harbor area on display until October 2007.

Nancy's salmon "Salmon & The River Are One" can be found at the Harbor Center, 7716 Pioneer Way.

TAM: new docent graduation projects

All seven of our new docents completed and presented a small research project at the end of June.

Some of them also handed in a written version, and these are available at the docent desk. For now, I have simply put them in the folder at the very front of the Current Exhibitions binder. There is also a very thorough binder of information on Environmental Art by Judi Keyser that is on the docent bookshelf.

Extra take-home copies are on the docent desk.

Thanks for your time!

TAM: lunch with the Frye docents

On Friday, July 27, a group of docents from the Frye Art Museum will be visiting Tacoma Art Museum. They will be having lunch in our café at 11:30 am and would love to meet some of our Tacoma Art Museum docents for a chat over lunch!

Approximately ten Frye docents will be visiting us, and they will also be speaking to Susan about our school tour program and having a docent-led tour of Tacoma Art Museum, of course.

If you would like to join Susan and me in meeting the Frye docents, please let me know and I will reserve a seat in the café for you.

TAM: summer reading

Jana Wennstrom has recently assumed book-buying responsibilities in the Art Resource Center (among other duties), and has been buying lots of books on that should be of interest to you!

To mention just a few of the new titles and topics:

-          Randy Hayes: The World Reveiled

-          Jaq Chartier

-          The Prints of Roger Shimomura: A Catalog Raisonne, 1968-2005 by Emily Stamey

-          Comic book art

-          Video art

There is also an end-cap shelf near the windows in the Art Resource Center that is dedicated to new books.

Thanks for your time!
