Don't forget to sign up for extra shifts!

Hello Docents,

Please remember to sign up for an extra docent shift on November 14 and/or 15. There are still lots of volunteer shifts open. During these volunteer shifts, you will spend time in the galleries answering questions and perhaps giving really short spotlight tours. You will need to make sure that museum visitors are going through the galleries, are not touching art, and help us keep a smooth flow throughout the museum. We really need as many docents to sign up for volunteer shifts during these two dates. Any docent who has attended any trainings on the Haub Family Galleries may sign up for these volunteer shifts. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Thanks!

Docent Handouts

Hello Docents,

Thanks to those who attended today’s training! Attached are the handouts from today’s training and below are some websites with helpful information. Remember that you can purchase the Haub Family Collection catalogues at the Museum Store right now. They are 20% off for docents. Also, there are two copies of the catalogue in the docent section of the Gates Library for docents.  Remember to check out the two copies that are on the volunteer and docent shelves – not the hard cover books that are part of our permanent collection. You can check a book out by filling out the necessary information in the Volunteer Check Out Log. Please only borrow the book for a short period of time so your peers may also have the chance to borrow that book.

If you have any questions from today’s training, especially about Native Americans that are represented in the Haub Family Collection please email me. I will reach out to Laura Fry and our Haub Fellow, Asia Tail, to get answers.

Videos from Suzanne Ramljak’s lecture and all the docent trainings about the Haub Family Galleries will be available by November 12. If you haven’t been able to attend the last two trainings or next week’s training, I highly encourage you to purchase the Haub Family Collection catalogue and study the essays. This will prepare you for the opening of the galleries until the training videos are available.

Training Reminder

Hello Docents,

This is a reminder email that there is docent training tomorrow morning, October 29 at 10 am. We will be meeting in the Gates Library on time. Ryan will provide a 30 minute workshop on talking to museum visitors in the galleries and/or how to talk with museum visitors on tours. Then, Laura Fry, Samantha Kelly, and Asia Tail will be discussing Native Americans as represented in the Haub Family Collection of Western American Art. It is important that you come prepared tomorrow with questions that you may have pertaining to Native Americans and their portrayal in the Haub Family Collection.

Samantha will spend some time getting a sense of everyone’s comfort level and how familiar everyone is on this topic. It is important that we are honest with what we don’t know, what we want to know, and what we may be hesitant to say or not say on a tour. Asia, our new Haub Intern, will provide some basic information and will be on hand to answer any questions. This discussion will be recorded for online viewing of the docent trainings.

After our discussion, we will move down to the Haub Family Galleries and see 5-7 works of art that focus on Native Americans in the Haub Family Galleries. We will only be in the first and second galleries tomorrow. It’s important that everyone stay with the group and ask questions during training.

Also, docents can purchase the catalogue for the Haub Family Collection in the museum store. There is a soft cover version and hard cover version. Volunteers receive a discount in the museum store; remember to wear your volunteer badge to get the discount. There are two copies of the soft cover book in the docent section that you may borrow, and the permanent collection has two hard cover copies that you may use to  study while in the Gates  Library.

Thanks!
