11/14 training--time change!

Hello, docents:

Hope you are doing well! I wanted to alert you to a time change for our next training, on November 14. Amy McBride unfortunately had an important meeting as part of her city duties that could only happen the morning of her presentation, so she asked if we could switch to the afternoon instead. I took an informal poll among those who were present at this morning’s training, and it sounded like afternoon would be as good as, or better than, the morning that day, so here is the revised info for the next training:

Adorning the Dome

Amy McBride, City of Tacoma Arts Administrator, will share with us the story of the 1982 Tacoma Dome public art competition that resulted in Warhol’s iconic flower design submission. She will also discuss current, renewed efforts to see Warhol’s proposal brought to life on the dome. Note that this training will occur in the afternoon rather than morning.

And if you cannot attend on November 14, there is an…

Saturday,

Adorning the Dome Public Lecture / Warhol Opening

If you cannot attend Amy’s special docent training for us on the 14th, you may attend her public lecture on the 3rd instead. Let me know if you are planning to do this so that we may reserve tickets for you, as we expect a large audience.

Hope to see you all. Please let me know if you have any q’s.

Speaking of attending trainings… we’ve been pretty sparse so far this fall. For instance, only 5 docent attendees at this morning’s required training (which was lots of fun—I’m attaching a picture of all of us with our tapetes so you can see what you missed!). We do seem to have more folks traveling than I anticipated at this time of year, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else going on? I’ve had a couple people mention that Wednesday mornings can be tough. I hadn’t wanted to change that training time when I stepped into this role, as the switch to Wednesdays in the first place had been a bit of a process, and it’s nice to have some consistency. But, if that time really doesn’t work for a lot of people, perhaps we need to look at a new time. Or if that time is OK for people, do I need to be sending out more reminders, or doing anything else to help motivate you? I would much appreciate your feedback on these questions. (If you respond and indicate that Wednesday morning trainings don’t work for your schedule, please let me know all days & times that do work for your schedule.)

As always, with appreciation for your hard work,

Courtney
