Hi everyone:

First, it’s a little overdue, but I wanted to celebrate and reward for spring & summer training attendance:

The dedicated Barbara, who missed only Marie Watt’s lecture, wins 2 free passes to the Grand Cinema, to be used for the film(s) of her choice. (Barbara, you can pick those up next time you’re in, or I can send them to you—let me know what you’d prefer.) Congratulations! Runners-up Gaard, Judi, Randy H, and Sharon just win my appreciation for their efforts. J

Everyone: If you somehow missed signing in on any of these, or I missed marking you off on the chart, let me know. Please remember that you are responsible for individually learning the content on any trainings that you miss. This can be done using various resources that are emailed to you and/or available at the docent desk, ARC, or online. A number of us also take good & copious notes that can be shared, and I will try to have as many trainings as possible videotaped this year—but there’s no real replacement for being there in person and getting to ask your questions, discuss strategies, etc.

I know that there are some folks who are generally unable to attend Wednesday morning trainings, but I am not sure who those people are, so if you can send me an individual email just to let me know that you’re someone I should never expect to see on Wednesdays—and let me know what kind of work you usually do to keep yourself informed & updated, and what I can do to make that easiest for you—that would be much appreciated.

Second, Rock shared a bunch of great materials at our Kenna training yesterday. I am attaching some here (Michael Kenna chronology and the draft checklist for rotation 1 here) and some in a second email coming next (an illustrated checklist and the intro label text). There are also a number of extra printouts, so if you’d like a hard copy of any of these (perhaps especially the illustrated checklist), stop by the docent desk the next time you’re in. Other study materials: There are around 60 books about Michael Kenna, a number of which are available for perusal in the ARC. He has a sprawling website (http://www.michaelkenna.net/) that is great for at-home research and to get to see a bunch of his beautiful photos. We will also have an audio guide with lots of great quotes and info directly from Kenna, and as docents you are entitled to listen to that free of charge, so please do! Lots of insightful statements about his work, background, and inspirations.

Thanks as always for all you do for Tacoma Art Museum!

Courtney
