TAM Docents: I need your input
I had an idea that I want to run by you. I was looking at Portland Art Museum’s member magazine and saw something I really liked and thought we could do here. They feature tours of particular galleries on specific dates and times. If we did this, if would become a value-added type of programming that would still be free with museum admission and may drum up some extra business for you too. Below is an example of what that might look like:
Wednesday, December 1, 2 pm Tour of Impressionism
Sunday, December 19, 3 pm Tour of Mighty Tacoma
Thursday, December 30, 1 pm Tour of Edo to Tacoma
We could probably feature one tour per week and pick different days, rotating the exhibitions throughout the months. These would then be up on the website and out in our publications. We could even create fliers that featured these public tours. By making the gallery tour specific, rather than the open ended version we had before just featuring “docent tour at 1 pm”, I thought it might have more appeal and marketing capability.
What do you all think about this approach? Any feedback you may have would be great.
Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!
