Docent Reading Group: Coast Salish Carving

BOOK:
This summer's Docent Reading Group will be focusing on native stories for the Coast Salish Carving exhibition. There are not many books out there that focus specifically on Coast Salish stories and are in print, affordable and easily available, so... I would like to suggest that you are free to read any book on that theme that you find at your library or bookstore or already own. (but I do also have a recommendation...) You can read as many or as few stories as you want!
If you want a specific recommendation, you might want to look for "Indian Legends of the Pacific Northwest" by Ella E. Clark. This book has been in publication for 50 years, and contains stories from several native groups around this area. I think it should be easy to find at bookstores (I got mine at the UW bookstore) and even the library, not too expensive at about $16, and a good "general read" to add to your well-rounded bookshelf.

DATE:
Hopefully we will be able to meet sometime in Augest to discuss this book, but Shannon will have to let us know what date is available for that (to be determined).

other:
Lastly, I would like to encourage people to come to the Book Club discussion even if you haven't read the book. I think that you might learn something from the discussion (or at least find them interesting), and that you can still take part in the discussions, without having read the books themselves.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me.
Heide Fernandez-Llamazares.
