Readings for training on Touring Strategies and Aesthetic Development Stages

Attached are the readings for the training on Touring Strategies and Aesthetic Development Stages.  The articles are brief and interesting.  Please read all three prior to the September 10 workshop.

Though I included a description in my previous email, I wanted to give you a little more information about Visual Understanding in Education (VUE) and the presenters for this workshop.  VUE trains museum docents in touring visitors of all ages.  For this training the presenters will especially focus on the aesthetic development stages to help all of us identify the needs and interests of museum visitors.  This method of selecting artwork and touring is one of the tools we want you to have in your docenting toolbox, so that you can best judge and meet the needs of your audience.  For more information on VUE and the research behind VTS please visit their website, www.vue.org.

Also, I realized there’s an error in the required reading list.  Though the Mary Randlett catalogue is required reading, you obviously cannot read the book until it has been printed and delivered.  Heide and I are working with the curatorial department to get essays on Randlett’s landscapes for you in the meantime.  We will email these to you next week.  Please read the essays prior to the opening date of the exhibition (September 1).

I hope this provides you with a more information.  Please feel free to call me if you have any questions about the fall trainings.

See you soon,
