Art Access Pass volunteers needed

I know that many of you won’t be able to do this due to jobs and other commitments, but hopefully one or two of you will be available!

Heide.

I am looking for volunteers to help with the Tacoma Art Museum’s Art Access Pass program at Pierce County libraries. Art Access Pass is a free, family pass that library card holders can check out from their local library. To promote the pass, we do some small, 1 ½ hour workshops at some of the participating libraries – the workshop is a little bit of advertising for Tacoma Art Museum and the current exhibitions, classes and other events, plus an art-making activity related to one of our current exhibitions.

This is the Art Access Pass activity for Winter/Spring 2006 – it is taken from an activity in the Open Art Studio:

THE GREAT AMERICAN THING: MODERN ART AND NATIONAL IDENTITY, 1915 - 1935

February – May 2006

Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, participants in this workshop will create lush, pastel still-lifes of flowers from direct observation, while exploring composition, shape and color. The goal is to imitate the subtle beauty of Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings by magnifying flower imagery and simplifying the details until the flowers fill the entire picture.

Ages 6 and over. 1 ½ hour art making activity.

Art Access Pass volunteers generally work on their own at the libraries, but I am available for a one-on-one meeting, as well as to help with your first presentation or you can accompany another volunteer before venturing out on your own. Information about all aspects of the Art Access Pass presentation will be provided.

I am still in need of an Art Access Pass volunteer for the following dates:

  • Saturday, February 18 from 10:30am-12:00 noon at the Tacoma Wheelock Library (to assist another volunteer, no training needed) (this would also be a good one to attend in order to learn what Art Access Pass is all about!)
  • Wednesday, February 22 from 1:00-2:30 pm at the Buckley Library
  • Wednesday, March 15 from 4:00-5:30 pm at the Sumner Library
  • Saturday, May 13 from 11am-4pm at the Yelm Timberland Library – This is an all-day drop-in activity that is in conjunction with Yelm Days. I need a few volunteers so that we can cover this event in shifts, possibly with two volunteers at a time.

Please let me know if you interested in volunteering for Art Access Pass!
