Re: continuing education certificate

Certificate from the University:

Sounds good. Makes it a little formal.

Is this something you would have been interested in when you were a new docent:

Sure; as continuing education - a certificate from the UW formalizes
the training and the reading we do. The Art History course can easily
be a UW continuing ed course by itself.

What would you think about making the certificate mandatory for new docents?:

Some new docents will see it as a positive (formal education) while
others might see it as "too much course work". The "Graduation
Project" caused some people to be extremely worried and tense - for
that set of people the UW connection will sounds like a full fledged
course with grading and all. We don't want prospective docents to get
the incorrect work/study idea. Some might not like the $30 fee.

At the end of the program the museum would certify to the University
that you finished the required number of hours, and you would then
receive the certificate. We could potentially offer two separate
certificates, one for docents-in-training and one for active docents.

We would like to have this in place for September. Please let me know
what you thinkā€”is this something you would have been interested in
when you were a new docent, or that you would be interested in as a
continuing docent? What would you think about making the certificate
mandatory for new docents?
