TAM: Know More Art lectures

Dear Docents,

I have only seen about five of you at the Know More Art lectures so far, and I would like to strongly encourage more of you to attend. The information the Know More Art series provides is extremely complimentary to the other docent trainings, and is given by experts in their fields.

As docents, you get to attend the lectures for free, and I want to point out that the lectures are not free for other volunteers—this is one of the perks of being a docent!

For the Chuck Close A Couple of Ways of Doing Something exhibition, it is highly recommended that you attend the following as training:

Ÿ         Tuesday, March 4, 6-7 pm – More than One Way to Make Something
Rock Hushka will trace the collaborative process in art, from the Renaissance workshops of the fifteenth century to contemporary artist groups.

Ÿ          Tuesday, March 11, 6-7 pm – Know More Art: Chuck Close: The Man behind the Camera
Rock Hushka will be giving this lecture, and it is highly recommended that you try to attend. I will be emailing some reading materials about Chuck Close's life and career for those of you who cannot make this lecture.

Ÿ          March 11, 10:30-11:30 am – Beyond the Snapshot, Modern Photography Techniques (Second Tuesday program)
Steve Davis, photographer and Evergreen College faculty member (and in the Tacoma Art Museum permanent collection—see Telling Stories), presents some of the older and more contemporary techniques of art photography. For those of you who think you need more training on photography, please try to attend this program.

Lastly, please make an effort to arrive before the training starts. I intend to make docent training all about the training, and the speakers will start on time. Any questions about schedules, books, resources, tours, or anything else will be addressed on an individual basis as much as possible, or towards the end of the training so that we do not waste your time.

Thanks for your time!
