URGENT: Docent Needed: Saturday, August 12

Can anyone do a docent shift (or trade a shift) anytime on Saturday, August 12?

There is no other docent scheduled on this day, and it is Chihuly Week so there will be special activities at the museum, and all around downtown, and we think it will be busy!

This shift does include tours at 11 am and 1 pm, as advertised.

CHIHULY WEEKEND EVENTS:

·         Hilltop Artists in Residence – Glass created by students in the Hilltop Artist-in-Residence program will be on view in the Tacoma Art Museum atrium for the month of August.

·         August 8-13 – Ma Chihuly’s Floats video in the Murray Family Event Space. Times will vary.

·         August 12-13 – Chihuly Weekend Activities, 12 – 5 pm:

o        Chalk artist Brian Major will beautify the Tacoma Art Museum plaza with an original chalk art masterpiece. Other chalk art by local artists and students will be created on the Bridge of Glass and along Pacific Avenue.

o        Magician and balloonist Magic Mike will create Chihuly-inspired balloon sculptures on the Tacoma Art Museum plaza.

o        Experiment with plastics that can be molded and shaped using hot water. On the upstairs balcony, visitors can work with molding plastic and markers to create their own wearable art inspired by Chihuly’s Sea Form shapes.

It is important that we try to have docents available for all shifts.

We don’t expect you to be in the galleries, on your feet, for the entire four hours! Please feel free to take a break whenever and wherever you need it – in the ARC, the Untitled Café, the Museum Store, or outside the museum. Just let Visitor Services know where you are, and they will find you if someone requests a docent.

And I will always contact you if there is a tour or other event for which you are needed at a specific time. Otherwise, it is completely up to you to decide when you are most needed and how long you can manage in the galleries.

Please reply only if you are available, and I will confirm whether or not you are needed.

Thanks for your time!
